| The term “antibiotic” is known practically to all of us. When we've got some bacterial infections we take antibiotic products to cure the disease. So do you understand what antibiotic drugs are? They are chemicals derived from microorganisms and applied to kill bacteria or slow down their reproduction.
The first antibiotic drug, Penicillin, in 1928 by Alexander Fleming, and its creation commemorated a new phase in the history of medicine. Apart from penicillin-based antibiotic drugs there is a list of other antibiotic medications produced by various species of bacteria. All the antibiotics are different in action and are applied for various purposes. That's why you should never try to choose an antibiotic medication by yourself. It is physicians' prerogative, do not interfere in their scope of activity. You should also note that antibiotics are efficient only against bacterial infections, but not virus ones.
Antibiotic products are very strong medical products so they should be taken only in conformity with the doctor's prescription. In case a certain antibiotic product was prescribed to your relative or friend and helped him or her it doesn't signify that it will be effective for you. It's highly probable that it will not bring positive results, it may even harm. Antibiotic products have quite serious side effects, that is why you should follow the guidelines of your physician concerning the type of antibiotic medical products and the duration of their application.
Although it's difficult to overestimate the value of antibiotic medical products in the modern medicine you should keep in mind that they are still medical products and have some side-effects. Be ready to confront with such problems as vomiting and diarrhea.
Do not forget to tell your physician about allergies you have or used to have since some antibiotic medical products may cause allergic reaction such as skin rash, itching or face swelling. If the application of the antibiotic medication causes non-standard reaction, stop its application and consult your physician as soon as possible.
