| Sexual performance can be affected by many factors. Erection problems or erectile dysfunction is brought on by both psychological and physical factors. It is thought that in 75% of cases there is a physical factor involved.
Psychological factors that contribute to or trigger erection problems include stress and anxiety, conflicts and dissatisfaction with a partner, depression. Men with erection problems often have the fear of sexual failure. Males who have faced ED in the past are concerned about their performance. This distracts from getting sexually aroused, thus triggering erection problems.
Among physical factors bringing on erection problems are diabetes, insufficient blood flow to the penis, penile nerve damage, endocrine imbalances, substance abuse, such as heavy smoking, high cholesterol level and blood vessel problems.
However, whatever the causes are, men who have sexual disorder are usually concerned and feel guilty and powerless.
There are only three oral therapies sanctioned by the FDA to treat ED: Cialis, Levitra, and Viagra. The medications relax the walls of the penis allowing more blood to flow to the organ, so that when a man is sexually aroused, he can achieve an erection.
Cialis, Levitra, and Viagra work by a similar mechanics to result in erections. There are insignificant differences in how long and how quickly the drug works. Levitra works a little longer than Viagra. They both take effect in about thirty minutes. With Levitra, the effects last for about 5 hours, while the effects of Viagra for 4 hours. Cialis works a bit quicker (in about 15 minutes after administration), and the effects last much longer - up to 36 hours in some cases.
Though each medication has proven efficacious, none is cure-all. Besides, they can cause health problems when interact with other medications. Note that drug-to-drug interactions with nitrates or nitroglycerin cardiac medicines can trigger a dangerous decrease in blood pressure, which can be fatal. More general side effects, such as pounding headaches and - in case of Viagra - blurred vision can be observed.
Alongside drug therapies, there are other methods of treatments, such as mechanical therapies and surgery for severe cases of ED. The type of treatment, hence, depends upon the severity of the disorder. |
