| Avatar is talked about everywhere. It is nominated 9 times for the Oscar 2010 and is likely to get a few awards. Avatar is a 2009 American science fiction epic movie scripted and directed by prolific movie director James Cameron, with Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Michelle Rodriguez and Stephen Lang playing the starring parts.
The term "avatar" has its roots Indian mythology. It means "god's visit to Earth to fix something that is broken". Vishnu, one of the three gods shielding creation, visits Earth frequently. In Hindu mythology Vishnu is depicted dark-blue. Having been possibly inspired by Hindu mythology, James Cameron has also decided to paint the aliens blue.
The film is set in th future (in the year 2154). It touches upon the eternal human vices: gluttony, immaturity and ferocity that arises out of ignorance.
The story revolves around a soldier - Jack - who goes to Pandora the planet placed in the Alpha Centauri star system in order to help The Corporation that wants to mine and export a precious mineral called unobtainium. The Na'vi are the alien arboreal humonoid species that thrive on Pandora. They are a part of a huge symbiotic living system that contains both plants and animals which are connected by a biological communication network. The Corporation plans to mine the planet and the Na'vi fight for their fatherland. The expansion and growth of the mining colony threatens the continued existence of the local tribe.
Jack is taken in by the Na'vi and explores their labguage, culture and habitat. Natirii, the female Na'vi he meets, helps him through this journey.
Avatars are biological creatures made from alien and human DNA. They are controlled by a human whose DNA they were made from. The soldier takes control of an avatar made from his brother's DNA.
AVATAR is an idealistic movie showing an ideal world. The ending is especially touching. The visual effects are breath-taking. The alien world Cameron and his highly professional team demonstrate to the viewer is one of the most thought-out and consistent. The film is worth watching. |
